Monday, July 13th
...they came up early in the morning and as they were approaching a bald eagle flew out over the water, made a big circle and...
...the whales came by slowly...J pod - all of them, some K pod whales and some L pod whales...
...there was some playful actions going on as they passed by the lighthouse...
...they moved steadily, against an ebb tide, and some of them didn't stop until they got close to the Fraser River...
...a few did stop at the Coal Docks where they foraged from there over to Birch Bay, to the east, for over seven hours...it was the J22s and four of the J17s...unusual group once again - but that is how this season is going...
...the first whale we saw...was DoubleStuff J-34 and he looked, from some angles, very different...his dorsal fin seemed to have a kink in it where there wasn't one before...wonder why...
...looking at my images
later I saw rake marks on both sides of his dorsal fin...and a bit of pink low on the left front edge...a bigger grab perhaps... someone got a
hold of his fin and maybe they went for a ride!
...at some angles the kink was not noticeable...
...at one point while on Peregrine, over the radio earlier in the day we heard someone mention that this group was pointing toward the red can...looks like DoubleStuf has arrived...
...the majority of the whales had gone to the Fraser River...this group would probably join them when they came back down...
