8/1-5/15 It Must Be Social Time

August 1st-5th
August 1st
...they evidently headed west in the night because they were seen coming back in in the morning...
...Granny J-2, Onyx L-87, the J14s, and the K12s, K13s, and the K14s went up toward the Fraser, while Group B and the J19s stayed down...

August 2nd
...Granny and the others came back down, meeting up with the L12s...Group B and the J19s were seen coming in from off shore and other L pod whales were also coming in from another off shore direction...
...for the rest of the day there were whales 'all over the place'...

...by late in the day they headed north...but the L12s stopped, changed direction and went back down, passing Lime Kiln lighthouse...this happened just after a lot of people left the park...go figure!

August 3rd
...whales here, there, and everywhere...out on Peregrine with Capt. Jim we meet up with some K and L pod whales as they came down island...
...from the rough seas south to the calm seas north...
August 4th
bye-bye...heading west in the Strait of Juan de Fuca...

August 5th
1:00 a.m. I hear J and K calls over the Lime Kiln hydrophones...
...by early morning it was clear to see that Group B had stayed down here while the rest of J Pod - this time Group A and some Ks - don't know who just yet, went north...
...but where are the J16s?...north with Group A or out somewhere doing their own independent travel as they do sometimes?...

...mid morning some J pod whales came up island...the J17s passed by the lighthouse with Tsuchi J-31...in the distance were Blackberry J-27 and Mako J-39...
...during the afternoon the J22s came up island with a few others and then back down again...

...tomorrow will, no doubt, be another interesting day in the world of the Southern Residents...
