9-30-13 Wrapping Up September

 Wednesday the 25th
...still sick, awakened by the phone..."whales? 4? Okay. Out in the middle maybe?"...it sounded like it could be Transients but I've seen before when 4 morphed into lots of Residents, so no time to delay...
...and I couldn't even get down to 'the wall' at the park...north they were going so fast...oh, my it looked like a thousand!
...I went north...
...and further north...

...there were two large groups...and one of them just flipped...I needed to backtrack...
...this was just too funny...
...funnier yet - two other boats - one commercial and one NOAA research - completely zoomed past this very large group of killer whales of J and K pods and Onyx L87...maybe they only wanted to see the other L pod whales??
...out on Maya's Westside Charters...and we too met up with L pod whales as they were closer...
...but the seas were not friendly no matter which group...
...by mid afternoon I was back at home, knowing that some of the whales were still to the south...and then I heard a squeak!...off to the park to see...one whale far off shore looking like foraging going on, and Granny J-2 heading up island...just then I get a call from Capt. Jim...off the dock again for a late afternoon trip...
...there's Granny heading back down island...and a lucky person to see her from shore too...

...spread for miles and miles...we enjoyed watching the whales...one gave a nice tail lob as we were about to head back home...

...Thursday, September 26th...L pod was still in the area, but the others were not seen...
...the rains and winds set in...for what has seemed like days...
