7-1-16 Stunning Display from 6 Orcas

...still no Residents in these waters...
...lots of transient orcas in many places again...

morning at the harbor...

...the T137s and T65Bs were the most, almost non-stop active whales...on the morning trip on Peregrine with Capt. Jim, it was drizzling, cold, and no sunshine, but that didn't 'dampen' anyone's spirits while watching these whales as they went after a harbor seal...

...by the afternoon with Capt. Andy, the drizzle had stopped, the whales had moved several miles up Boundary Pass where they spent a lot of time in what appeared to be socializing, aka goofing around...

...in all the time I've spent on the water photographing orcas in this area, this is only the 2nd time I've ever seen this...and it occurred 2 days in a row!

...today was opening day of Chinook salmon season...huh?...now why in the world would there be a salmon season when there is barely enough salmon...
