8/12-13/14 Just Where Did Those Three Whales Go

Tuesday/Wednesday, August 12/13th
Tuesday, August 12th
...a small group of whales, spread way out, spotted in Rosario Strait...Residents or Transients?...the small number makes one think of Ts, but the 'spread way out' makes one think of Residents...
...it turned out to be the J16s...they were with Granny and Group A yesterday and the K Klik...but today it was only the J16s...
...out on Maya's Westside Charters we head in a direction that is about as far away diagonally as we can get...over toward Deception Pass bridge - it connects Fidalgo Island to Whidbey Island and is quite a bridge to see from the water...
...once there, it was quite nice, except that it felt like October instead of August...

Wednesday, August 13
...instead of nasty seas, today it was fog...now was it June?...what nutty weather we are having...

...concentration plus to get a picture...
...Shachi J-19, Hy'Shqa J-37 and several others coming down...
...this Rhinoceros Auklet was ready to fly home to feed the kids!
...Onyx L-87 was off shore from most of the others...Granny J-2 was half way between the inshore whales and Onyx...
 ...here's Onyx L-87...
...

...oops...
...Ivan of the Western Explorer saw the J16s at East Pt....they had come up island during the night...they watched as the J16s made a hard left turn, I think along Tumbo Island, and met the rest of Group A coming towards them!...together they came down Boundary Pass to Haro Strait where we met them coming down...
...so the J16s had circumnavigated the the islands...very interesting...
...but the K Klik - where are they?  Simon of Ocean Ecoventures last saw all of Group A and the K Klik the evening of the 11th, up at the lower entrance to Trincomali Channel heading up...
...a few weeks ago the K Klik was seen up by the Fraser River...no other whales except these three...
Soooo, the K Klik could be anywhere...and if someone spots 3 killer whales they might very well pass them off as Transients...but if they look closely they will see that the male has a very obvious open saddle patch and it's that way on both sides...
...of course if the fog remains, no one will see anything!...and it may all remain as one of those unsolvable chapter endings...
...can't wait to see where the K Klik shows up next!
