6-11-14 J-22 and Family Are Where?

Wednesday, June 11th
...Oreo J-22 and her group went north in the night...undetected, by me anyway...they were seen all the way at the Sandheads (near the Fraser River)...I can only imagine when that first person who spotted those whales at the Sandheads today wondered if he was really seeing DoubleStuf J-34 (most obvious at first look) - just what in the world was going on!?

...and later today the rest of the J pod whales, who are here (all but the J17s), were coming down Rosario, around the bottom end, and eventually up the west side of the island...I guess they are finding enough food in here...the one thing I have noticed over the hydrophones - echolocating-yes...calls-not so much...

...out on Maya's Westside Charters for an afternoon trip, we meet up with the leaders as they have just passed the lighthouse...

...little J49 was playing around with uncle Se-Yi-Chn J-45...
...this was great - one last look???
...J-49 catching up to his mom Hy'Shqa J-37...
...
...they continued on up passing Kellett Bluff...the reflection - oh, my..."thanks Granny for surfacing in that flat calm section of water!"
...Granny J-2 and Samish J-14 and her three kids and grand kid were up in the lead...
...next came the J11s - Blackberry J-27, Tsuchi J-31 and Mako J-39 and with them were Shachi J-19 and Eclipse J-41...which would make sense since it is a potential that Shachi and Tsuchi are believed to be from the same matriline...however, for the last several years Shachi and Eclipse have traveled with Group A, Granny's group, while Tsuchi and brothers were with Group B...when Spieden J-8 died last fall I wondered if she and Eclipse would move back over to travel with Tsuchi and her brothers...well, they did for today anyway...

...and since 'the Cookies' were way up north there would be a new group who were the trailers...and those would be the J16s!
...they were farther offshore...Mike J-26 was present too, just not in this image...

...and on up they would continue toward the Fraser River...maybe they would meet up with Oreo J-22 and her group somewhere along the way...

...glad to see this boat and its smoke going the other direction :)
...it's very strange to not have Princess Angeline J-17 and her large family in here...
