March 27-28 J Pod and thoughts on Shachi J-19

...coming up San Juan Channel passing Ruben Tarte park...they came in a group all of J Pod together again - yay! The whales have given the humans lots of challenges this past month...trying to figure out who was where...so it was an extra relief to see them together!

...March 28...the sea was rough, visibility poor for the humans, the whales were spread out..

...Suttles and her brother T'ilem I'nges and then Star surfaced with them.

...when the whales came down Shachi J-19 was in the lead.  She has been since Granny J-2 died.  Looking at this image caused me pause...

...I wonder what Granny 'went through' to become the leader.  

...I wonder who handed over the charge to her.

While searching through images for something else, Ruffles 'showed up'. He lived a long life, was referred to, with Granny, as 'his and her majesty'. 

One evening as they were approaching the lighthouse (2009). 

...I think of this community and how it has changed since I began 'this journey' in 2004.
