...shortly before leaving for a trip on Maya's Westside Charters we learn of whales coming across from Discovery...I had been listening to the hydrophones and all was quiet, so no help there...by the time we got out of the harbor some were passing Lime Kiln lighthouse and some others were not far behind...
...this female and juvenile surfaced along with one other...who were they???...that's what everyone wanted to know...seems these may be new to our local neighborhood...
...T139 is possibly the mother and grandmother of T141 and her offspring (but not known for sure) info from: ID Catalogue of Bigg's (transient) Killer Whales from Coastal Waters of British Columbia, Northern Washington, and Southeastern Alaska...
...the two males of the T19s were in close to shore with their mom...
...that wide fin belongs to 'Mr. Floppy Fin' T19B...
...at one point we left the whales and went to see some harbor seals...I'm now on alert for that harbor seal we saw yesterday with the plastic strap pinching tight on its body...but instead saw these...
...not only was I not expecting whales today, I certainly wasn't planning on meeting some 'new to me' ones! Very cool!
