6-9-14 Whale Dining Just Around the Corner

Monday, June 9th
...the J pod whales who have been in the area - and not all of J pod is here - came back down island during the afternoon of June 8th...and back up island sometime during the night...BUT...I didn't know that they had done that...they must have gone silently past the hydrophones or I slept through their chatter!
...the T065As were spotted in Rosario Strait and then turned and traveled through Peavine Pass...we arrived on scene on Maya's Westside Charters just as they were getting a meal...
...when they began traveling again they had come in to San Juan Channel and were heading up toward President Channel...where they made another kill...
...the lighting was very different during both encounters...
Since you've seen so many pics of this family group lately...here are a few from the day...
...size perspective
...another seal becomes a meal...If only I had been a second quicker...
...T065A3 looks like a male to me...
...marks sometimes acquired when attacking something that fights back!
...and a different size perspective of mom and baby...
...this family group has been around here a lot lately...seen 5 of the last 10 days...after all there are a lot of harbor seals just about everywhere they travel in this area...dinner nearby all the time!

Note:  the J pod whales were spotted at about 3pm coming down Rosario Strait!

Note:  officially it is T065A, etc.  I often leave off the 0.
