8-8-14 J Pod - Same Place Same Time

Friday, August 8th
...Granny J-2 passed the lighthouse going down island at about 7:45 this morning...she was in the lead...

...just a short distance behind her was a juvenile...it was - Pooka L-106!
-huh?...where was the rest of his family group?...

...behind these two were the K14s, J16s coming along at a good pace... and behind them were the J14s, J19s, and Onyx L-87...and then came the rest of K pod and the rest of the L pod whales (who had been north) all mixed together...

...a short clip as they began approaching...

...pretty morning, calm seas, whales surfacing nicely for IDs...

...okay, so now I knew who had been up north...
...now to find out who had been down south...

...thank you very much whales...noon time...up island...

...Granny J-2 in the lead by what seemed to be a couple miles and then came the others...

...and they began to pass by...spaced out, not in close...since I wanted to know who was present this was just right... ...and then...a large group of K pod and L pod whales...you'll have to imagine all the whales in those blank surface spaces where the rest of them are...
...out on Maya's Westside Charters a short while later...we came upon a resting group of whales...and this time the big group was only the 19 L pod whales and the K Klik...
...one of the passengers was wanting to see Granny J-2...on up ahead we continued...the J17s, J11s, were with the rest of the K pod whales...

...and still further ahead were others...and there was Granny J-2...mission accomplished - she got to see Granny :)
...the three tall fins, left to right...Onyx L-87, DoubleStuf J-34, Mike J-26...
...Blackberry was offshore, he and his brother had been goofing around...
...the K pod whales were behind the lead group of the J pod whales...it's been quite a while since all of J pod has been seen in the same place at the same time - nice to see then that way today...
...on the way back we learn that some had flipped and were going back down island...from Lime Kiln Pt. State Park in the later afternoon...
...it was the group of 19 L pod whales (L26s,  L4s, L21s, L72s and L95) and the K Klik (K21, K16, K35)...

...so today I can end the day knowing (or thinking I know) who is where...aaahhhh...I like it when there is order...of course it won't last very long...
