6-6-15 L Pod Showed Up Again!

Saturday, June 6th
Yesterday someone in J pod must have heard something which caused them to hightail it out toward the west!  The L pod whales who had arrived on June 3rd and then vanished for 2 days, showed up again, coming up island in the late morning today.
...they didn't make it to the park, but turned and spent the rest of the day down island...
...out on Peregrine with Capt. Jim we left the two transient killer whales, T77A and T124C up north and zoomed our way down to find the L pod whales...
...Marine L-47 and Mystic L-115 were the first two we saw...
...we could see others farther down island and spread way out...that seems to be the case these days...spread out means looking for salmon...
...on our way back in we stopped for the baby bald eagle...getting bigger!
...later in the day the whales were off the South Beach area near Cattle Pass, at the lower entrance to San Juan Channel...the L pod whales who we saw were part of the group of 15 who had been in here...several of them were miles to the east doing their own foraging...
...at one point spread out whales Nigel L-95, Surprise L-86, Pooka L-106, Ophelia L-27, Muncher L-91, Moonlight L-83, and Midnight L-110 began to head toward Cattle Pass on the east side, while Marina L-47 and Mystic L-115 entered from the west side...

...it appeared they had some salmon they were after...
...the went up past Goose Island before turning around...

...all heading down the west side of SJChannel and out of the pass, giving us some great photo ops!
...but would they still be here tomorrow was the question...enough salmon for one day doesn't necessarily equate to enough salmon for the next...

Awesome pictures and loved the store. It is fun to get a closer look of each whale and get to know it by name!
